What to Expect

Your session with the pelvic health physiotherapist will include both an assessment and treatment. Your physiotherapist will be asking personal questions about your health concerns. You can share as much or as little as you are comfortable with. Any information that you disclose to your physiotherapist is completely confidential.

Internal Pelvic Floor Muscle Evaluation for Pelvic Health Conditions

Very specific muscles in the pelvis may be involved in your condition. These muscles are inside your pelvis and to fully assess them your physiotherapist may perform an internal exam (vaginal and/or rectal- depending on your sex and symptoms). A pelvic health physiotherapist has specific training and qualification to do pelvic exams. If you are not comfortable with this part of the exam it is not necessary and we can proceed with our assessment and treatment plan without it. If you are not comfortable with any physical exam or attending an appointment in person, you can opt for a virtual appointment. You have the right to stop your assessment/treatment at anytime during your visit. Communicate any of your concerns with your physiotherapist so that we can best help you.
